The story of Johkula in the old vicarage

Johku Museum tells the story of the lake, the fell and the people who made a living between them. Book your entry time online, join a guided tour or bring your group to explore life on the shores of Lake Johku.

Permanent exhibition: Lake, Fell and People

Eight rooms of the 19th-century vicarage take you from the first fishermen to today's travellers. See the log drivers' tools, desks from the village school and the vicarage kitchen as it was in the 1920s. Upstairs, the nature hall introduces the lichens of Johku Fell, the birds of the bogs and the fish of Lake Johku. Allow 60 to 90 minutes.

Now showing: Under the Northern Lights

From 14 November 2026 to 11 April 2027, local photographers show Johkula's winter nights: the ice road, the fell top and village yards under the aurora.

Book a time slot and walk straight in

The vicarage is old and its rooms are small, so we let in up to 40 visitors every 30 minutes. Pick your arrival time when you buy online and skip the queue. Children under 7 enter free.
